What are the yellow pipes in Elkins Lake?

UPDATE: Ramachandra, Y.S. “Ram” , Engineer for City of Huntsville, spoke with Sherri Barrett this morning and stated that the pipes are involved with replacing old gas lines with Centerpoint Energy. In fact, after the initial call from Sherri Barrett last week, the city was made aware of the pipes and discovered that Centerpoint was not working through the city in the implementation of the new gas lines. The project was put on hold for a while to allow the coordination between Centerpoint and The City of Huntsville.

Emblem Properties apologizes for the misinformation but are pleased to receive the corrected information and share it with local residents.

OLD INFORMATION:

We are glad you asked! Sherri Barrett lives in Elkins Lake and was wondering about the pipes and contacted Elkins Lake https://www.elkinslake.net/and the City of Huntsville https://www.huntsvilletx.gov/.  Elkins Lake did not have an answer for the pipes , but after speaking to city services, she was told the pipes were for re-routing the sewer lines while repairs were made to the permanent sewer pipes.

So, now your know. We are glad to answer for those “inquiring minds”.

I-45 Expansion in Walker County

The I-45 expansion in Walker County is full swing!

The Texas Department of Transportation is expanding I-45 to six lanes through Walker County.  Currently the project consists of two segments.  The South Walker County Project expands I-45 to six lanes starting at the Montgomery County line. This segment will be approximately 12.6 miles and heads north to Huntsville. The second segment is the Central Walker County Project which will extend the six lanes of I-45 past the city of Huntsville.

The purpose of these I-45 expansion projects is simple; ease congestion, assist in local traffic flow and aid in hurricane evacuations.  While much need, constructions delays, road closures and lane changes are frustrating.  Signage on I-45 and media updates are helpful but not updated in real time.  How does one prepare a simple trip out of town not knowing if they can return as planned?

Drive Texas  is the answer!  Created by Texas Department of Transportation, this website is updated 24 hours a day and is monitored and verified by TxDOT and its contractors.  DriveTexas.org is an interactive map showing current and future road conditions statewide.  While the site won’t alleviate all your traffic frustrations, it is driving you in the right direction.
