Bluebonnets of Texas

History of Bluebonnets

The Bluebonnet flower was adopted as Texas’s state flower on March 7, 1901. The flower gained popularity for its bright blue color and its mesmerizing, sweet smelling fragrance! For more information on the history and background our Texas flower visit the Texas A&M agricultural website.

How to Grow Bluebonnets

The typical season for growing your bluebonnets is around the end of March to the middle of May but, this is a fall-planted seed for spring flowering. Bluebonnets are very adaptable and do not require the best soil to flourish.

These flowers love and flourish in the sun! Therefore, a lot of times they are seen in ditches or the sides of highways. For more tips on how to grow your beautiful Bluebonnets check out American Meadows’ webpage segment called “How to Grow Texas Bluebonnets”.

Is It Illegal to Pick Bluebonnets?

Every spring season the question “is it illegal to pick bluebonnet” arises. After doing some research Emblem Properties found that the only place you should not pick bluebonnets is on private land because it is illegal to trespass. There is no law that forbids anyone from picking bluebonnets. All that our state asks of you is to be respectful and safe when stopped on the side of a highway for pictures. To further your knowledge about where it is and isn’t safe to pick bluebonnets visit Take Care of Texas’ website.
